First, did you know that some of the money that you raise in the hopes of fighting breast cancer goes to an organization known for abortion and the distribution of birth control pills both of which contribute to breast cancer? I did, but I am glad to see that now everyone else knows it to. It seems most Pro Life people were unaware that Susan B. Komen’s foundation was funding Planned Parenthood. What a blessing, that although Susan B. Komen caved to the liberal Pro Abortion crowd and Planned Parenthoods pressure which is again funding abortions and causing breast cancer, the truth is now out there!
The second truth that is interesting to note has to do with the pressure of government to force a Christian institution to go against its moral conscience and do something they believe is in violation of God’s Law; offer birth control pills which can cause abortions. I must admit, when I started this ministry, my main goal was to research the origins of sex education for children, but it quickly lead me to the origins of the Sexual Revolution and at the heart of it all was the fraud “science” of Alfred Kinsey, Planned Parenthood, and the Pornography industry.
Believe me when I say I was not happy to see how the sexual revolution had influenced all Americans..... including those in the Christian Church.....including myself. You see I was researching this information when I was in my last 30’s. I had given birth to three beautiful children in my early 30’s, but was happy to be on the birth control pills as I didn’t want to be bothered with the expense or care of any additional children. I felt I had done my part to populate the earth and God gave scientist the knowledge of developing a “safe” population control method. My church, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, a conservation denomination, had deemed that birth control pills were acceptable to God. I was doing what most Christian women and men do; I was deciding when new life could come and when it could not!
Now without being biased, let me share a few things that made me question why did the Church move away from life and toward “population control.” I was hoping that they had had some wonderful revelation from God, but what I found was man’s philosophy. Let me share a few stunning facts:
1. First, it is interesting to note that Abortion didn’t just occur. Americans had to first be convinced that new life was no longer welcome. Look at the following supreme Court cases (our founding fathers referred to the Court with a small “s” because only God was Supreme) and how the Christian Church led the way in this slippery slope: 1963: The Protestant Church accepts contraception for married couples. 1965: Griswold v. Connecticut - Allowed married couples to use contraception based on the 14th amendment. 1972: Eisenstadt v. Baird – Argued if contraception is legal for married couples, then it should be legal for all adults. 1973: Roe v. Wade – Since chemical abortion had become legal, it was a small step to make surgical abortion legal. 1977: Carey v. Population Services – Allows contraception to be legal for minors
2. Let me expand on why the Protestant Church officially accepted contraception for married couples. Since I have been in the Lutheran faith most of my life, I looked to the writings and teachings within the church during the time leading up to the Sexual Revolution and please do not think I am picking on the Lutherans as you will find this in any Christian denomination that supports contraception. I came across a book that was written by Rev. Rehwinkel who taught at the only Lutheran seminary from 1940 -1955 and was touted in his book as “among the few who pioneered open discussion of planned parenthood.” The book is titled, “Planned Parenthood and Birth Control in Light of Christian Ethics.” In the book he praises Margaret Sanger for her population control efforts and refers Christians to not only Margaret’s writings, but Mary Calderone (former President of P.P.) and the Planned Parenthood Federation of the United States. There is also some disturbing information on Eugenics and Sterilization that makes one reminisce about the days of Hitler. I often wonder, given the truth we now know about P.P. if he would still stand behind his writings?
3. Something I find amazing is the churches willingness to stay silent on the action of the birth control pill. I did not read the fine print in my pill package or read the website of the drug company who made the birth control pill to see that the third action of the birth control pill is to make the lining of the uterus hostile so that the egg which had joined with the sperm (which most Pro Lifers believe to be the time of conception) cannot implant in the uterine wall and is then spontaneously aborted. I once had a friend share that her Pastor’s conscience was O.K. with this because it doesn’t happen that often. How many babies being aborted would be allowable? If it was only 1 in 1000 would that be O.K.? As I ask many pro-life crowds…..how Pro-Life do you want to be?
4. Historically there were a few things that had been said about what would happen if contraception ever became legal (you see these chemicals had been around since the 1930’s, but we weren’t allowed to use them until they became legal until 1965 and it took some time to convince us to put these chemicals in our bodies). “I urge the advocates of artificial methods to consider the consequences. Any large use of the methods is likely to result in the dissolution of the marriage bond and in free love.” Mahatma Gandi, 1925
“Carried to its logical conclusion, the committee’s report (to allow marital contraception) if carried into effect would sound the death-knell of marriage as a holy institution, by establishing degrading practices which would encourage indiscriminate immorality. The suggestion that the use of legalized contraception would be “careful and restrained” is preposterous. Editorial in the Washington Post, March 22, 1931
“Indeed, it is to be feared that husbands who become accustomed to contraceptive practices will lose respect for their wives. They may come to disregard their wife’s psychological and physical equilibrium and use their wives as instruments for serving their own desires. Consequently, they will no longer view their wives as companions who should be treated with attentiveness and love.” Pope Paul VI, 1968
5. Medically, can I add something that astounds me and has affected me personally? I had been a birth control user for over 10 years and I had many medical problems that I now know were related to putting synthetic hormones, chemicals, in my body. I have since heard from countless women who have many of the same problems, but the one that concerns me the most are the women who say they got breast cancer from using the birth control pill. In a press release of July 29, 2005 the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a division of the World Health Organization (WHO), declared the classification of combined estrogen-progestogen oral contraceptives (OCs) as carcinogenic. The IARC placed the contraceptives into their Group 1 classification, the highest classification of carcinogenicity, used only "when there is sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans." This is stunning information that never seems to make the papers and I wonder how the Christian Church can continue to endorse something that not only may be killing babies, but is killing women as well.
6. Lastly, I want to address why the Church bought into the Sexual Revolution. In my research I came across a man who was considered the father of the Sexual Revolution: Alfred Kinsey. He was a professor at Indiana University and taught the first ever human sexuality course in America (under the guise of a marriage class) in 1934. He claimed to have scientifically proven that we were sexual animals and that we shouldn’t be restrained sexually in any way. He believed in the womb to tomb theory, that even infants could enjoy sex. He believed that Pleasure of the sex act was to be elevated to the point of worship and that Procreation needed to be eliminated. His “scientific data” included testimony from men who raped children, the most sexually deviant male criminal in prison and the prostitutes. His science has been disproven, but in my research of the Lutheran Church I have found Kinsey’s associates at the heart of the Lutheran Sex Education program for children and his science was used to give the Planned Parenthood crowd the much needed boost to make sexual immorality and slaughter of children legal in this country.
So there you have the history behind the birth control movement. There are many prayers being offered up for a revival in this land and for the Christian Church (the sleeping giant) to wake up and engage the battle against sexual immorality. I believe in II Chronicles 7:14 which says, “if My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” It is time for the Christian Church to re-evaluate their stance on birth control!
